Bending/forming GCDs

The Bending/Forming GCD Category includes the following GCD Types:

Bends

The Bends GCD Type includes one or more StraightBend GCDs, which represent only co-axial cylinders having the same radius. These GCDs are available for the Sheet Metal and Bar and Tube process groups.

The GCD details are as follows:

For details about StraightBend GCDs, see Bends.

Forms

The Forms GCD Type includes one or more Form GCDs, each representing a deformation of metal other than bends. Usually, this is achieved by pressing a shaped punch into the material from one side. The far side can either deflect or not. Depending on their aspect ratios, forms are made by a variety of operations: coining/swaging when the metal thickness is significantly changed, embossing when the deformation depth is relatively shallow, drawing when the metal is significantly stretched, and deep drawing when the metal is extremely stretched. These GCDs are available for the Sheet Metal process group.

Properties

Area (mm2)

The area of the GCD in a flattened state.

SER Length (mm)

The length of the smallest enclosing rectangle.

SER Width (mm)

The width of the smallest enclosing rectangle.

Sub Type

The sub type of the current GCD type. Possibilities include TAB, BRIDGE, EMBOSS, and STAMP.

Depth Down (mm)

The depth of the form. This is measured as the maximum distance that any point on the form’s main surface is displaced. It is always a positive number.

Depth Up (mm)

The depth of the form. This is measured as the maximum distance that any point on the form’s main surface is displaced. It is always a positive number.

Perimeter (mm)

The sum of lengths of all edges in the contour.

Lances

The Lance GCD Type includes one or more Lance GCDs, each representing a slit in the sheet metal requiring no material loss. Usually, a lance lies on a form. Lances are rarely, if ever, made by themselves. Normally, they occur next to a form to make design features such as louvers or bridges. Lancing and forming are usually done at a single die. These GCDs are available for the Sheet Metal process group.
